About Us
Hospice of the Bluegrass, Hazard Office provides end-of-life care to residents in Perry, Leslie, Breathitt, Knott, Letcher, Morgan and Wolfe counties. We care for patients at home and in long term care facilities. In most cases a team member can respond within 24 hours of referral to begin the admission process. How We Work
At Hospice of the Bluegrass, we work as an interdisciplinary team. This team is comprised of the patient’s physician, a volunteer medical director, nurse, social worker, chaplain, home care aide, bereavement counselor, volunteer, and most importantly the patient.
Who Pays for Hospice?
Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance carriers reimburse for Hospice services, but some patients have no insurance. Hospice of the Bluegrass provides care regardless of insurance status, and at essentially no out-of-pocket charge to the patient or family. In 2010, Hospice of the Bluegrass provided $1,115,000 in un-reimbursed care. Generous donations, memorial gifts and in-kind contributions make this possible.
Volunteer Opportunities
These include, but are not limited to, patient care and administrative/other tasks, in both the office and the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center as well as many opportunites to help with special events. Hospice of the Bluegrass sponsors a variety of programs, training sessions and fund-raising activities throughout the year.
